A-Z night #5: Dark ecology – artistic encounters in the Antropocene

20.02.2018 at 7:30 PM

This A-Z night will be the darkest edition ever. No longer is nature shaping humanity, but WE are shaping the world. Our acts influence the earth in noticeable and unnoticable ways. This is the starting point of the term ‘The Anthropocene”. How can the artistic practice relate constructively to this critical concept? What new methods and knowledge can offer an perspective to a world full of uncertainties?

A-Z night #6: Beyond the Urban – the creative potential of the periphery

13.03.2018 at 7:30 PM

During this A-Z edition we look beyond the urban. Cities, the places of growth and innovation, are popular, also among creatives. These centres seem to give the artistic practice an impulse. But what is there outside of the urban-hotspots? What can creatives find in the periphery what they can not find in cities? And how can creatives facilitate creative impulses in the periphery?

Wide Vercnocke guarantees a visual report of every night. Live on stage he captures explicit statements and principles in ingenious images. Wide works as a freelance illustrator for among others Knack Focus and Agenda. He published the novels Mijn Muze ligt in de Zetel and Wildvlees in which he connects apparent everyday activities to something bigger.

Report in words and images

Every night will be captured in both words and images. Noortje De la haye and Willem Kissembeek will, together with students of PXL-MAD, create a printed essay of images you receive as soon as you leave the room after the conclusion of the program. Jozefien van Beek will write a reflexive text in response to the discussion of the night.

Program composers: Veerle Devreese and Pien Visser

The A-Z night’s are composed by Veerle Devreese and Pien Visser from creative consultancy Cornelis Serveert. Together with the partners of A-Z Nights they search for fresh perspectives to unravel a theme.
